Locally there seems to be a total misconception about Shabu-Shabu. This is mainly due to the sprouting of restaurants which borrow the name but practise more steamboat principles with the addition of fishballs and processed seafood. If you follow the Japanese way, Shabu-Shabu which literally means “swish swish” it is all about cooking thinly sliced meats in a pot of boiling soup broth.
