The National Fatwa Council: 'Tomboyism' not allowed

Oh no, here we go again! Appearing in the news today, the National Fatwa Council issued a statement on Thursday that tomboyism is banned in Malaysia because it's forbidden in Islam.

Datuk Dr Abdul Shukor, chairman of the council, said that it was a move to curb the rise of young women dressing/behaving like men and indulging in homosexuality.

The report continues with the council giving a piece of advise to parents: keep an eye on your kids and stop them from "indulging in disruptive activities".

I hope they're only joking about it because I still can't get over the council banning any exhibitions on ghosts, ghouls and supernatural beings.

What are your thoughts on it?

Gays and lesbians too ... but u know man ... all life is god's creation... even 'pondans'; some dont like but to some 'OK . The real fact remains, all men are created equal to 'HIS' eyes.
so Whose 'EYES' are these National Fatwa was for??
Is it for 'human' or the 'One' above.

Yet, still i say the 'fact' remains, we are all different in our ways.... some hate and some don't.

Ill bet you that its Human.......

fk must be fickle minded to think that the councils decision is based on production of life instead of morality. Thank god for his creation of thought and decision making in each human beings. Now all we need to do is educate people to think for their own good and not let someone else or any organisation or religion do the thinking for them. It's like we live in a society of zombified robots who are ordered to not even wear clothes that they feel comfortable wearing? Next they will even order us to only wear clothing made for those living during 500 AD. Hmmm... Taliban comes to mind! If you feel comfortable in it wear it. It's your decision. I f they don't like it that's their problem. Tell them to go sort it out with their psychiatrist.

What's wrong with other people having a same gender relationship. If it hurts your eyes go see a doctor. It's their life, leave them alone. I was a homo-phobe once but after befriending them they are quite funny and very interesting people as you and I are. We are all humans. Just because they do not share the same ideals and liking in relationships as you or I, that doesn't make them any less of a human being. It's the year 2008 and Malaysia seems to be going backward circa 500 AD. I mean why don't the FATWA ban computer usage and TV's too. Those mediums also project audio visual indulgence in disruptive activities. Go ahead try to ban it. IF YOU CAN!!!!

"Datuk Dr Abdul Shukor, chairman of the council, said that it was a move to curb the rise of young women dressing/behaving like men and indulging in homosexuality. "

Yes, of course. This is the sort of action you take to stop something. Ban it!

50 years ago there were a bunch of retarded that said women shouldn't go outside to work and show themselves in public cause staying at home looking after kids is what women were born to do ... now our society prove that they are just a bunch of mouthful brainless idiot (and maybe their daughter is now a white collar office lady). Hard to believe in this 21st century there are still so many narrow minded people ... Everything is Gods creation, God never hate, who gave you the right to judge and punish others? for you yourself will be judged one day. Peace to the world those who hates will not go to heaven.

First of all, it only applies to Muslims, so if you aren't Muslim you will not be covered under the ruling. No need to get panic attack or islamophobia kind of mind because of this ruling.
Secondly, united Muslims scholars opinions in the form of fatwas is merely guidelines and not enforceable as like Taliban and to make it as comparison is extreme.
There are no death punishment or cutting hands if you don't follow the ruling.
Some disregard Muslims also may choose not to obey and by evidence they are at large.
Thirdly, the National Fatwa Council is showing it's concern with the rise of social problem among Muslims youth and among main issues is lesbianism or 'tomboyism'.
We must stick to our values & morals as in religion & culture. We are being influenced by the product of western and liberal values whereas our Eastern values of manner, ethics and moral are declining and diminishing.
Malaysia must equipped our youths with core values of religion, ethics and integrity so that we develop not only physically but also mental and spiritually

This differs depend on your perspective and how you look at it. For example, if you are liberals minded as you say open minded , then i'm sure you will think their acts and behaviour are not immoral and vice versa.
The problem is this is not how things are in this country.
yes, they are normal as other people except their behaviour and acts which differentiate them with others (the society at large).
Malaysia still a conservative society which perceive homosexuals as immoral and this is the values we been teached and learned for many of us.
I don't think homo is from god. My view is that the problem is a matter of personality or psychology which are not same with the norms practised in the society.
We should not waged war against them but instead we must help them.
Of course, i'm respecting all people including homosexuals

wait a minute, how can these people tell a tomboy a part from a real guy?

should the government be allowed to grope on men they suspect to be women?

will the government end up forcing people to strip down to make sure they actually do have breasts and vaginas or penises?

where is the boundary that separates the government from interfering with people's personal lives?

this country keeps discriminating against more and more people it makes me sick.

so far it seems like this country is slowly becoming more fascist day after day, all hidden behind the veils of an "islamic state"

idiot? you may not seem as it is.
Get a break and read the issue carefully. This is just guidelines for the Muslims. Your question is baseless and nonsense.
It's not what you think
The police will not hunt down them if they are on the street. Please get your facts right before you go down and pour your emotions and senseless questions to the readers.

The society is improving from time to time, not all values are suitable as a guideline for all the time, like the example "women stays home, men go out to work" our society is what we see now because from time to time we are able to throw all those narrow minded thoughts and become more open minded, not strictly follows what the book or told by the elderly ... moral values should not be interpreted solely as a knowledge or guideline inheritance from our ancestors but its a kind of knowledge that is flexible enough to absorb new values and evolve from time to time to meet the changing of our society.

Homosexual should not be treated as sickness or psychological problem, there are many example of life on our earth that has same sex properties, single cell reproduce themselves with no gender, plants have both gender on themselves, not to mention so many great man and successful people in the history on earth are homosexual ... Everything is natural , there is nothing to be cured.

i'm sorry for being 'fickle minded' cyberkil..that's not me being rational is it?Here's a rational thought,in an argument,no one is right,it's either you succeed in persuading the other half or you dont. The fatwa is only applicable to muslims....that is if u are one.Otherwise, please dont mock or challenge the fatwa as if you're the one whose going to be affected by it.Life is simple, you follow the rules and things will go well for you....and to 'idiot',if you're so sick of this country,go seek some medical attention somewhere else other than this country....this country needs men and women....not a boy or a girl like you whose only job is to complain, complain, and complain

They should sit down with the Leaders/Teachers of muslim groups who are proponents of violence and killing, and show them which part of the Koran and Hadith says their violence is wrong (if it indeed is wrong).

After all the violent bunch have been claiming that the Koran and Hadith says what they are doing is correct. Whereas the peaceful bunch say that's wrong.

Both can't be right.

It is more important to FIRST settle when the killing and violence can and cannot occur, and who is allowed to do it, as according to Islam.

The other stuff like banning "tomboyism" or the wearing of gold and "white" gold by men, is less urgent.

Because it is hard to debate if the other side slits your throat for allegedly being a hardcore hypocrite.

So you need to establish under which circumstances the killing can happen and who is allowed to do it.

Susah ni wei. My question is simple: The Fatwa is a theoretical argument until it becomes implemented. With Malaysia being the wellspring of implementation that it is, what are the checks and balances to this system that will ensure justice for all, above all else? Because one cannot but remember the cases of JAWI raids on various nightclubs in KL - How would we treat the 'guilty'? And how does our treatment of the 'guilty' reflect our own values and morals? I'm sure some of these enforcement officers are totally thinking about that when they make their snide off-color remarks (ada Islam ajar yang itu?). Or not.

In any case, I'm thinking we should all give http://www.e-fatwa.gov.my/ a visit :)

Seperti kata salah satu channel dalam ASTRO kesayangan kita: Persoalkan semuanya.

That's fine if you are a muallaf. But what if you are a Malay? The wording of the Federal Constitution on the definition of this term is far from obscure. Is there choice?

Kalau dah takdir, redha saja lah.

There are no difference between a mualaf or a Malay. Both are bound to adhere the ruling of Islam. As Radzi had said Muslims are bound to respect & follow the teaching of the religion.

Provision of Federal Constitution regarding Malay is very clear and like other parts of FC it's based on historical cultural and religious aspects, compromise etc.
