Eco Freedom Concert: Efek Rumah Kaca Preview

Wednesday, 17/02/10 - 12:51PM Filed in Music by myra | Views: 2569 | Comments: 0

While their more pop-inclined compatriots seem to prefer singing about love and its many tribulations, Indonesian indie band, Efek Rumah Kaca, are concerned with social and political issues.

Best known for their song “Di Udara” (In The Air), a tribute to prominent rights activist, Munir Thalib, who was murdered while on board a flight to Amsterdam in 2004, the trio have come a long way since emerging on the scene in 2001. Efek Rumah Kaca’s self-titled album (translated as Greenhouse Effect) has songs like “Hujan Jangan Marah” (Rain, Don’t be Angry) that address environmental issues. Recently dubbed by Rolling Stone Indonesia as Rookie of the Year 2008 and awarded The Best Cutting Edge 2008 accolade by MTV Indonesia, Efek Rumah Kaca has been riding on the wave of success and now, their music is seen and heard around the region.

Oxygen Media, Frinjan and Envelove Distro, with the support of My Future Foundation, present Efek Rumah Kaca, who will be in Malaysia for two events – Diskustik at The Annexe Gallery and Konsert Eco-Freedom: Efek Rumah Kaca at One Café. Diskustik will see an acoustic performance by the band, followed by a discussion about the lyrics, themes and meanings of their songs. As for the concert, it will be a full-fledged performance by Efek Rumah Kaca, as supported by regional acts such as Couple, Deepset, Dum Dum Tak, Nao, Free Love and Bit the Medusa.

Concert Details:

Date/Time: 27 February, 3pm
Admission: RM35
Venue: One Cafe, Opposite Pizza Hut, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, 50100 Kuala Lumpur
