New Kids On The Block

A new retail haven is cropping up in the 'burbs of Subang Jaya. Along SS15/4 are Subang's latest occupants, Wheel_Love and Pink Tattoos. Opened last October, the shop lot is split into two. On the ground floor is Wheel_Love, a skate shop devoted to the Malaysian skate scene. Founded by skaters Sukeats and Weiyeng, Wheel_Love offers a couch-packed lepak area, a boutique and an alley for skating.

"You don't have much space in most skate shops in Sungai Wang Plaza so Wheel_Love is a place to lepak, play some Play Station and use the grind boxes," says Sukeats. The shop reveals a myriad of choice items: skates; clothing brands from Malaysia and abroad; and Japanese toy Kendama. They also offer hand printed tees like "All Skate No Hate" for RM30 each.

On the first floor is Pink Tattoos, a one-stop shop owned by Lynda. Once a copywriter, Lynda's love for the art made her leap into the tattoo business. Lynda explains, "it needs to a comforting environment because tattoos are painful and intimidating." Depending on the design, size and complexity, charges for a tattoo starts from RM150.

Lynda has included Broillies, a brand of affordable chic clothes and handmade jewellery. "When people get tattooed they'll always bring friends, so at least their friends can browse and shop while they wait," Lynda adds. For those feeling peckish, there will be Cake Crumbs, a light refreshment bar serving cupcakes and cakes opening soon.

Wheel_Love and Pink Tattoos are located at 28, Jalan SS15/4, 47500 Subang Jaya. Opened from 12pm - 8pm, Pink Tattoos is closed on Mondays while Wheel_Love is opened daily.

What do you wish you had more of as a child?
Pocket money! I used to get only 20sen back in school.
Respect from my parents. I am my own person!
I wish my parents listened to me, instead of keeping to the idea that "children should be seen and not heard"
Attention! My siblings took it away from me. Grrr!
Freedom. My parents never let me go out with my friends.
Brand new clothes, not hand-me-downs that were ill-fitting!
Maturity to impress and annoy the adults with.
Time! Everything happened so quickly and I miss those carefree days.
Toys, gadgets and the latest computer games, because we kids were competitive about things like that.
I certainly wish I heard less of the phrase, "When I was your age..."
