Dirty Pretty Things

Tuesday, 29/12/09 - 19:16PM Filed in Lifestyle by yangching | Views: 1420 | Comments: 1

A big fan of international labels, Shantee Lim found it difficult to purchase items online. "Most of them don't ship to Malaysia, and even if they do, shipping costs itself would kill me," she says. Following that, Shantee decided to start Dirty Pretty Things, a blogshop that stocks up trendy and chic clothing intended for women of all ages. "I decided that Malaysians should have a chance in following fashion trends when it's trendy, not when the trend died months ago," she adds.

Although Shantee doesn't run the business full time (she's an undergrad at Monash University), she still finds time to travel to countries like Indonesia and Thailand to hand-pick items for Dirty Pretty Things. Ranging from frilly dresses to androgynous pieces, Shantee works hard at making sure her shop provides one-of-a-kind designs that are stylish yet affordable. We personally love the choice of tank tops and flower dresses.

While the response "ha[s] been great so far," Shantee confesses, "we are still hoping for more Malaysians to be open to the concept of online shopping." So what can we expect to find at Dirty Pretty Things in the New Year? "We're planning on our own label where there will be pieces that are exclusively manufactured by Dirty Pretty Things!"

What do you wish you had more of as a child?
Pocket money! I used to get only 20sen back in school.
Respect from my parents. I am my own person!
I wish my parents listened to me, instead of keeping to the idea that "children should be seen and not heard"
Attention! My siblings took it away from me. Grrr!
Freedom. My parents never let me go out with my friends.
Brand new clothes, not hand-me-downs that were ill-fitting!
Maturity to impress and annoy the adults with.
Time! Everything happened so quickly and I miss those carefree days.
Toys, gadgets and the latest computer games, because we kids were competitive about things like that.
I certainly wish I heard less of the phrase, "When I was your age..."
