Preview | Posted on 06 May 2008 by sarah

Last Saturday, Mandarin Oriental invited KLue to a cooking demonstration by their guest chef from Guangzhou, China. Chef Tony Gao is known as one of the masters of Teo Chew cuisine, and has over 20 years of experience,

Ask any KL-ite what’s Teo Chew cuisine like, and chances are, you won’t be able to get an answer. We learned that dishes like the pan-fried oyster is a Teo Chew dish, and were treated to a cooking demo on dishes like fried prawn dumpling and fried meat balls, Teo Chew fish noodles, Tai Ji vegetable broth, and sweetened honey potato served with Vanilla sauce.

You can get a taste of the special Teo Chew cuisine by Chef Tony Gao at Mandarin Oriental’s Chinese restaurant, Lai Po Heen from now till 11 May. It’s available during lunch and dinner, and you can choose from a huge variety of dishes including Cold Cut of Crab Meat Teo Chew style, Braised Fragrant Rice with Cod Fish and Preserved Vegetables in Broth, and Steamed Teo Chew flavoured Bean Paste with Seasonal Fish and Ginger. This promotion is priced from RM28++ onwards. For reservations, call 03 -2380 8888.
