Tuesday is here. Let's get right down to it, before the inertia of the day gets to us:

  • Tragedy: a bridge collapse in Kuala Dipang (an hour for Ipoh) during a school camping trip has resulted two students missing and one dead. Interestingly, the camping trip seems to have been billed as a 1Malaysia thing. [Malaysian Insider]
  • Another case of domestic-maid abuse: Indonesian national Mantik Hani, found locked in the toilet of a house in Taman Sentosa, died in hospital on Monday. Wow, Malaysians. This sort of thing reflects badly on all of us. [The Star]
  • Passe tennis star Anna Kournikova comments on race relations in Malaysia: “(Malaysian men are) very cute but at the end of the day, it is all about the person and it has nothing to do with the race." [The Star]
  • Oh, ew. Online documentator of the Gross Food movement, This is why you're fat, now has a realspace book, collecting "recipes, local favourites, and stories from the dishes' creators". Just, ew. [Eat Me Daily]
  • The-Internet-sets-us-free-sort-of filter: AsiaPacificFilms.com offers free access (until November 1) to a vast online library of classic celluloid from our neck of the woods. "Fact: 95 percent of these films are never seen outside of their own countries." [CNET Asia]
  • Oh goodness. Remember GeoCities, from the Stone Age of the late 1990s? The "vintage Web-hosting site" shuts down for good today.  It was a younger, more enthusiastic time, then. Say adieu to web rings, visitor counters and guest books ... [CNN]
  • Old-but-gold news from the cyborgs down south: Singapore's North Vista Primary School has incorporated Nintendo Wiis into their Physical Education (PE) curriculum. The school's principal: "We don't want what we teach in school to be so isolated from real life." [AsiaOne]

What do you wish you had more of as a child?
Pocket money! I used to get only 20sen back in school.
Respect from my parents. I am my own person!
I wish my parents listened to me, instead of keeping to the idea that "children should be seen and not heard"
Attention! My siblings took it away from me. Grrr!
Freedom. My parents never let me go out with my friends.
Brand new clothes, not hand-me-downs that were ill-fitting!
Maturity to impress and annoy the adults with.
Time! Everything happened so quickly and I miss those carefree days.
Toys, gadgets and the latest computer games, because we kids were competitive about things like that.
I certainly wish I heard less of the phrase, "When I was your age..."
