What is your name? No Use For A Name(NUFAN)

Thursday, 01/10/09 - 17:14PM Filed in Music by angelene | Views: 2839 | Comments: 4

Don't call yourself a fan of punk rock if watching No Use For A Name doesn't raise your temperature. Considered a veteran of the scene, No Use For A Name, or NUFAN, as they are affectionately known, have been a musical tour de force since their formation in 1987. With nine albums under their belt (not even counting live albums and EPs) and nine line-up changes later, the Californian band is still as solid as ever with their latest release The Feel Good Record of the Year. One review states: “For those too young to have heard NUFAN in the past, this is an excellent starting point for a great, great band.” In a nutshell, that statement explains how NUFAN stays relevant after 22 years in the biz. Their sound has changed over the years, moving towards a more accessible melodic hardcore and pop sound (there's a reason why their latest album was named as such). While this may turn off older listeners, their new sound no doubt opens the band up to a new generation of fans who are just getting into the scene. For a lesson in keeping things fresh, be sure to check out Tony Sly, Chris Rest, Matt Riddle and Rory Koff in action this 18 October. They are supported by bands Under 18, Abhorrence, Dosound, Plague of Happiness, Toxictoy, Second Combat and Always Last.

What do you wish you had more of as a child?
Pocket money! I used to get only 20sen back in school.
Respect from my parents. I am my own person!
I wish my parents listened to me, instead of keeping to the idea that "children should be seen and not heard"
Attention! My siblings took it away from me. Grrr!
Freedom. My parents never let me go out with my friends.
Brand new clothes, not hand-me-downs that were ill-fitting!
Maturity to impress and annoy the adults with.
Time! Everything happened so quickly and I miss those carefree days.
Toys, gadgets and the latest computer games, because we kids were competitive about things like that.
I certainly wish I heard less of the phrase, "When I was your age..."
