Malaysia’s 20 best and brightest: Ken Hor, Bob Chua, Project Muff+Stit & Cziplee
Our annual 20 under 40 is very much like a thank-you note. Without these 20, Kuala Lumpur, nay, Malaysia would’ve been a less exciting place. Over the past year, these 20 have made headlines, set trends, open up avenues and basically showed us just how much can be done and achieved with equal measures of hard work and passion. Here are the first four:

Ken Hor (32) : Award-winning music composer
"After bagging 4 BOH Cameronian Arts Awards last year (2008), and a restage of Let's Go Mamak! in KLPac's Pentas 1 this year, Ken continues to strive against all obstacles to unite the Malaysians with the power of music."
Written by Fung Chern Hwei who is a freelance musician currently based in New York City. He plays both violin and viola, and is a member of the Sirius String Quartet and a progressive Turkish belly-dance band, Djinn.

Bob Chua (35) : Leading entrepreneur and CEO of Pulse Group PLC
"With an uncanny sense of foresight – in business and personal life – he has successfully combined his motivation, humility, communication skills and global experience with an understanding of not only unmet needs, but also what it takes to address them."
Written by best friend Sean McCabe.

Cziplee (40) : Stationery galore from the neighbourhood bookstore.
"While it’s hard work and it takes whole lot of patience, we want to be known as the books and stationery store that meets the needs of the community."
Written by Alvin Chen.

Project Muff+Stit - Sher (22) & Chelle (22) : KL's freshest fashion duo.
"They believe they are here to express themselves and play around with what they simply enjoy - fashion. It's too much to predict what these girls are capable of in the future. What we can do though is just sit, watch and enjoy."
Written by photographer and friend Fazil 'Zillieman' Fuad. He has worked with the girls on many different shoots – like the one you see here.

This is a great way to promote the country's talent but wouldn't it be more impressive if someone other than 'best friends'made the recommendations? Or am I missing something?
Hi Marcus, we didn't ask 'best friends' to make the recommendations. The editorial team did.
Like the previous 20 Under 40 list, we got those in the list to suggest someone close to them to write about them. We were looking for insight into the personality, a side that the public doesn't see.
Hope that answers your question.
