Hats Off
Top Hat built a reputation as one of the city's best restaurants. But a few months ago, the restaurant had to close. Without missing a beat, they re-opened just a few doors away.
The new Top Hat is smaller but retains that rustic, colonial charm. Owner Maria Danker's touch is evident—the antique Nyonya cabinets, the colourful silk drapes and the charming landscaped garden (perfect for wedding functions, by the way). Danker has divided the bungalow into six rooms named after Malaysian textiles like the Songket and the Kebaya.
The menu is East meets West; items change every three months but staples like their top hat (pai tee) and Nyonya Laksa will not go anywhere. In for a snack? The quiche comes highly recommended. Top Hat is located at 3, Jalan Stonor, 50450 Kuala Lumpur. Tel: 03-2142 8611. Web: www.top-hat-restaurants.com
