Opened in April by boyfriend-girlfriend team Childson and Maggie, MNEP “The Burrow” is sitting pretty in Student Central, better known as Subang Jaya. The pair met three years ago when Maggie was checking out Childson's designed canvas shoes at his old Sungei Wang store.

Maggie explained that MNEP stands for Manual Epoch. "Manual" comes from clutch-control driving and “epoch” as a trend or point in time. “So, you control how the trend goes,” she says. As for “The Burrow,” they were literally thinking of the animals' subterranean dens as a home or temporary refuge.

True to the name, the dark den-in-the-sky is an accommodating three-in-one stop with a couch-packed lepak area, a little cafe serving soft drinks and beer (RM3–15), and a two-pronged boutique concept. Reflecting Childson and Maggie’s different styles (tattooed punk rock and indie chic respectively), the boutique portion of MNEP is split into “The Burrow” for men and “Save the Indians” for women.

On Childson’s side you’ll find a load of T-shirts (RM60 and above to RM250 and above for branded tees), shoes and accessories from American brands Supreme, Vans and Royalefam, Hong Kong brands Skool and Silver Union as well as an affordable range sourced from Bangkok and Indonesia.

Maggie’s territory heavily stocks items from Bangkok (RM30–90) and is named for her Native American headdress and her Sitting Bull bust; “crazy stuff,” she points out. For more info, cyber-tunnel over to manualepoch.blogspot.com.
