Want contribute to a good cause yet have lots of fun with family and friends at the same time? Take a look at this.

The National Cancer Society of Malaysia’s (NCSM) Relay For Life is a high-spirited event where everyone in the community can join in the fight against cancer. It will be an all-night event happening from 30-31 May (this weekend).

There are many ways you can participate. You can choose to make a donation or sponsorship. All funds raised for RFL KL 2009 will be used to upgrade the equipment and facilities at NCSM's Cancer Treatment Centre (CTC) - where they provide radiotherapy treatment at highly subsidized rates to the general public.

Of course, the main draw of the event is the Relay Race. All you have to do is recruit 10 people to join you in a Relay team. In the weeks leading up to the event, each team member raises money by collecting pledges. Registration fee is RM10 for individual participation and RM100 for a team of 10 people.

Also, As Relay For Life is an overnight event, there will be camping tents for rent at RM50 per tent.  Campers are encouraged to join in the best decorated tent competition to win great prizes. Luminaria Bags are also sold at RM1 each. All you have to do is decorate the bag, write your message of hope on it and hand it in at the Luminaria counter on 30 May.

On Relay Day itself, team members take turns walking around the track to ensure that someone is on the track at all times. Participants don’t sleep that night to signify how cancer never "sleeps". Each Relay For Life starts with the Survivors’ Lap, a testimony to the fact that so many people today are surviving cancer. Meanwhile, the inspirational Luminaria Ceremony will happen at dusk, when cancer survivors are honoured and those who have lost their battle with the disease are remembered.

Of course, there will be all sorts of activities going on throughout the event, including all-night entertainment, movies, games, competitions and races. So what you get is a truly community-centered event with a party atmosphere.

Don't miss out on this chance to chill out and enjoy with a purpose. For more information, log on to www.cancer.org.my
